This sketchbook club isn’t in a sketchbook!
Instead, I flipped through some of the sketchbooks I filled in 2025 and redrew a bunch of drawings.
Looking at old drawings again is a lot of fun and can teach you something. I really enjoyed reliving memories as I revisit subjects and media I used in 2025.
Things I drew
A person from my one-week 100-people sketchbook. (Check out these people drawing tips, plus this sketchbook club session on people)
A building from my 100 Buildings project
Powder tower from my day in Prague
Austrian train schnitzel
Beer from faculty lunch at the urban sketchers symposium in Poznań
Salt shaker from the art retreat I hosted with my dad
If you want a slower look through a sketchbook, I scanned one from Poznań and Berlin. Let me know in the comments if you’d like a look through another.
Media I used
Watercolour, including my second favourite pigment, Scmincke transparent yellow (PY150 AKA Nickel Azo Yellow). I wrote about my watercolour mixing philosophy a while back, plus these two articles have some good watercolour tips.
Tombow fudenosuke markers (black and red) - read more about my favourite art materials.
The next sketchbook club is on Sunday, 25 January at 9 am NZ time. I’ll be talking about drawing rocks with pen and watercolour, then we’ll draw some.
